The Power of Forgiveness in Recovery

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.(Ephesians 4:32)

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But
if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15)
Recovery—whether spiritual, emotional, or relational—often involves confronting deep wounds,
disappointments, and betrayals. At the heart of true healing is forgiveness, an act of divine power
that releases both the offender and the offended from the chains of resentment and pain.
Forgiveness is not about ignoring the offense or pretending it never happened. It is about choosing
to release the burden of bitterness and allow God’s grace to work in our hearts. Jesus Himself
emphasized that our ability to receive God’s forgiveness is closely tied to our willingness to extend
forgiveness to others.

Unforgiveness is a barrier to spiritual recovery. It keeps us bound in the past, hinders our prayers,
and stunts our spiritual growth. However, when we choose to forgive, we make room for God’s
restoration and healing to take place.

**Prayer**

Father, thank You for the power of forgiveness that brings healing and restoration. Teach me to forgive
as You have forgiven me. Remove any bitterness, resentment, or pain that hinders my spiritual growth.
Help me to walk in love and grace, knowing that true recovery begins with a heart willing to release the
past. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Declaration
