Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God Psalm 42:1–2 (NKJV)
Spiritual hunger is the gateway to spiritual fullness. Jesus declared blessing not upon effort, but upon appetite. Heaven responds to longing hearts. When hunger fades, complacency settles in but when hunger awakens, divine filling follows. David paints a picture of desperation, not casual pursuit. A thirsty deer will not stop until water is found.
Fasting reawakens this longing by silencing distractions and sharpening desire. It reminds us that God alone satisfies the soul’s deepest needs. Those who hunger for God will never remain empty. As hunger for God increases, lesser appetites lose their grip. The MORE of God flows naturally to those who crave Him deeply.
Prayer
Lord, awaken a fresh hunger in my heart for You. Deliver me from spiritual complacency and dullness. Let my desire for Your presence outweigh every other desire. As I seek You with all my heart, fill me with righteousness, intimacy, and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
