Receiving the Word with Humility

Receiving the Word with Humility

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted  word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby. 1 Peter 2:2

The Word of God carries divine power to save, renew, and transform, but it only works in a heart that is  humble and teachable. When pride and stubbornness dwell in the heart, the Word finds no soil to take  root. James reminds us to lay aside all filthiness and wickedness. Those attitudes and habits that resist  the Holy Spirit and to receive with meekness the Word that God plants within us.

Just as soft soil receives a seed and allows it to grow, a meek heart receives the Word and allows it to  produce fruit. This humility is not weakness; it is a posture of surrender that says, “Lord, speak Your  servant is listening.” It is the same posture that made Mary respond to the angel’s word, “Be it unto me  according to Your word.”

Like newborn babies who cry for milk, we are to crave the Word of God with the same desire and  dependence. The more we feed on it, the stronger we grow in faith, wisdom, and character. Every time  you open the Bible, approach it not as a scholar seeking information, but as a child seeking nourishment.  The Word that is received with humility will eventually manifest in power, bearing fruit in your words,  actions, and lifestyle.

Prayer

Lord, I come before You with a humble heart. Remove pride, distraction, and every hardness of heart that  keeps me from receiving Your Word. Plant Your truth deep within me, and let it transform my thoughts,  speech, and conduct. Teach me to hunger for Your Word daily and to walk in obedience to what You  reveal.

Declaration

“I receive God’s Word with humility and faith. It takes deep root in my heart, transforming my mind and  producing fruit that glorifies God. I grow daily through the nourishment of His Word.”
